TOURNAMENT INFO

The Cedarville Masters is strictly an invitation tournament. There will be 32 players and the qualifications are determined by the Cedarville Masters Committee. The tournament takes place on the traditional Cedarville University Campus Golf Course and consists of a 66 par 18 hole course.  The course conditions are always expected to be exceptional every year so that players will be able to have their best performances. Courtesy will always be shown to best fit the player’s needs.  The main objective is to provide a tournament that includes the best players on Cedarville University’s campus that can provide entertainment to all campus golf fans. Also, if at all possible, see the advancement of the game.

The Masters at Cedarville University is inspired by the Masters Golf Tournament and has quickly become a tradition unlike any other among the students at Cedarville University. The tournament was created by Zack Gatlin, Eric Hoober, and Conner Scott in 2013 which sparked an inaugural tournament and continues to grow in popularity with the highly skilled contestants. The game is played with a single golf club of the player’s choice and a tennis ball.

Campus Golf Official Rules

OFFICIAL RULES

  1. It is a gentlemen’s game.  Respect The Masters.

  2. Only one club per golfer may be used per round (golfer may switch to a different club the next day)

  3. Best score from previous hole tees off first and moves toward the worst score teeing off last.

  4. Wait until each person tees before moving to stand next to your ball, unless it is about to go in a drain.

  5. The person with the ball the farthest from the hole shoots first, and so on.

  6. The tee box is located between the two tee markers (flags) and with a depth of two club-lengths.

  7. After any shot, a player may pick up and spot his ball ONLY IF the ball has completely stopped on pavement for a second and the player picks it up at that moment.  (To avoid wind or cars moving the ball).  Otherwise, all balls must be played as they lie.

  8. A player may NOT intentionally tell a random bystander to touch or move his ball.

  9. If a random bystander adjusts or hinders the ball in any way, then the player must play the ball from where it lies after the incident.  It is the player’s responsibility to tell the bystander to not touch the ball if he does not want it to be touched.

  10. All movable objects around where the ball lies are free to be moved.  Weeds, branches, dirt, grass, rocks, etc. are all permitted to be moved in order to properly hit the shot.  The ball may never be moved, touched, or adjusted by the player, unless the player has picked up and spotted his ball under legal circumstances outlined in #7.

  11. If the ball is lies within a half club length* of a curb, the player may move the ball away from the surface up to one half club length.

  12. If the ball lies simultaneously on two surfaces, the ball may be adjusted up to a club face from the original spot.

  13. If the ball lies on a grate, the ball may be moved to a better position on the grate (no stroke penalty). However, the ball must remain on the same playing surface, unless within a half a club length away from a curb (see rule 11).

  14. You are permitted to scoop the ball to hit it.

  15. You are permitted to stop the ball before it goes into the drain (no stroke penalty). If the ball falls into the drain, you are permitted to retrieve and drop your ball (no stroke penalty).

  16. If the ball goes into the lake, under a car, or something else where it is unplayable, one must take a stroke penalty and perform a drop.  If it is still playable like under a car or on the rocks, one is permitted to hit it out rather than take a stroke penalty and drop.

  17. No golfer shall be permitted to play any part of the 18-Hole course on any of the days of competition.

  18. Scorekeepers along with The Committee have ultimate authority on questionable situations.

*A half club length is from the head of the club to the beginning of the grip

SPECIFIC HOLE RULES

Hole 1 – Cedarville Sign: Drop zone for going underneath vehicles is in the grass with a stroke penalty.

Hole 7 – AC Unit: Vertical plane around the AC unit (only pipes in the plane count as the hole), one must actually hit part of the AC Unit, not go through it or land on the concrete inside, concrete border does not count.

Hole 8 – Adam & Eve: Apples, words, and plaque do not count. Only the person counts.

Hole 9 – BTS Statue: On shots that try to go over the lake, but do not hit any rocks on other side, one must drop along the line the ball took to the OB area on the same side it entered the hazard.  If one hits the rocks while going over the lake, one must drop in the drop zones on the BTS side of the bridge on the same side they entered the hazard.  If one goes into the water on a shot towards the statue, one must drop where they entered the lake on the mulch (not on the concrete).

Hole 13 – Library Boxes: All three boxes count as the hole including the pipe between.

Hole 14 – Bench: If one hits the rocks and goes in the hazard, one can drop with stroke penalty on the bench side of the lake about one club length from the edge of the rocks where they entered the hazard.  If one goes straight into the hazard off the tee, one must tee again with stroke penalty.

Hole 15 – ENS Statue: The whole statue counts, including the large round circle.

Hole 16 – Light Post: If one goes into the rocks, one must drop in the corresponding drop zone related to the quadrant that they entered the hazard.

Hole 18 – BTS Statue: If one enters the rocks/water, there are no drop zones, so one must drop in the mulch (not the concrete) where they entered the hazard.
